Interestingly, some former pupils remember PE teachers who did not have a favourite slipper at all.
They simply grabbed whatever suitable plimsoll happened to be nearby.
A forgotten shoe from lost property.
A pupil’s own pump.
One borrowed from another child.
This may help explain the enormous variation in people’s memories.
One week the teacher might use a small, light plimsoll.
The next time it might be a much larger one.
Consequently, two pupils attending the same school could have quite different memories of “the school slipper.”
