There are, however, recollections suggesting that girls at Heaton received corporal punishment on other occasions.
One woman who attended the school between 1975 and 1981 remembered receiving the strap more than once.
There is also evidence from the school’s earlier period as North Heaton Secondary Modern School for Girls.
A former pupil recalled receiving the strap from the headmistress during the 1950s.
Such accounts indicate that punishment of girls was not necessarily unknown at the school, although its frequency remains uncertain.
